Five new Section V teams joined this week's New York state girls soccer rankings, bringing the region's total to 20.
The latest list also signals a major sea change for local teams. Only two of the 10 defending section champions (Aquinas and Livonia) appear.
Among the notable absences is Spencerport. The 10-time reigning champion Rangers have appeared in the state rankings every week since the start of the 2016 season (last omission was the 2015 end-of-season list). Spencerport, No. 5 last week, dropped out following a pair of losses.
Biggest rise: Wheatland-Chili jumped nine spots in a loaded Class C. However, the Wildcats' five-game winning streak came to an end on Monday, and a tough test awaits on Friday against undefeated Batavia Notre Dame.
Wheatland-Chili dropped the teams' previous matchup 2-1 on Sept. 14.
Biggest fall: Penfield is down three spots in AAA after a .500 week. The Patriots opened with a dominant win against Mercy, but followed with a tie to Fairport and loss to Aquinas.
