Constellation Brands Inc., headquartered in downtown Rochester, has acquired SpikedAde, a brand of hard sports drinks that combines sports drink flavors with a vodka base.
The noncarbonated canned beverages come in flavors including Electric Blue, Electric Red, Electric Green and Electric Orange. Each contains zero sugar, 100 calories and 3 grams of carbohydrates and is gluten-free.
Constellation paid $75 million for full ownership of the business, with additional contingent payments of up to $278 million over five years based on SpikedAde’s future performance.
The SpikedAde team will be integrated into Constellation’s beer division. Constellation will oversee the brand’s production, marketing and distribution, with plans to expand its distribution across
the United States.
Constellation said the spirit-based ready-to-drink category is one of the fastest-growing segments of the beverage alcohol market, with dollar sales increasing 25% over the past year.
