President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 32%, the lowest level of his political career, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The poll, released Monday, Sept. 21, found that 32% of Americans approved of Trump's job performance, down 3 percentage points from the previous Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The 32% approval rating is the lowest recorded for Trump across his two terms in office, according to Reuters. His previous low was 33%, first recorded in December 2017. He also recorded a 33% approval rating for three consecutive weeks in August.
The poll found that dissatisfaction with the cost of living and the war in Iran were among the issues contributing to the decline. Only 17% of respondents approved of Trump's handling of the cost of living.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll
The poll was conducted over four days and completed Sunday, Sept. 20. During that period, Trump banned three major news organizations from the White House and said Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts could be demolished if his name could not be added to the building.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 1,277 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
Republicans' approval of Trump falls
Trump's approval rating among Republicans also fell in the latest poll. Seventy-three percent of Republicans approved of his job performance, down from 82% in the previous week's Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The poll also found that 51% of Republicans disapproved of Trump's handling of the cost of living, while 17% of all respondents approved of his handling of the issue.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 34% of respondents approved of Trump's handling of the war in Iran.
Trump's approval compared with Biden's
A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted shortly after Trump was sworn into office in January 2025 found that 47% of Americans approved of his job performance.
The latest 32% figure is also below former President Joe Biden's lowest approval rating, which Reuters reported as 35% in October 2024.
What do polling averages show?
Individual polls vary because pollsters use different methodologies and survey populations. As of Sept. 22, RealClearPolling's average showed Trump with 40.1% approval and 58.5% disapproval.
Other polling trackers and individual polls also show Trump's approval below 50%, although their figures vary. The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll is one individual survey rather than a polling average.
