Canandaigua voters in Wards 1 and 4 will have new polling locations for Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Voters in the two wards will cast their ballots at either Wood Library, 134 N. Main St., or the Canandaigua Emergency Squad, 233 N. Pearl St. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The changes, approved by the Ontario County Board of Supervisors last spring, also revised election district boundaries. The goal is to improve accessibility for city voters with mobility challenges.
Voters in Wards 2 and 3 will continue to use their usual polling locations.
Ontario County Board of Elections officials said annual voter notice cards mailed in May explained voters' polling places and election district assignments. The cards also prominently noted any
polling place changes.
Who does the change affect in Canandaigua?
City voters who live near North Main Street, between Gibson and West Gibson streets and Chapel and Buffalo streets, are now part of Election District 1 in their respective wards. These voters will cast their ballots at Wood Library.
Voters in Ward 1 who live east of Park Street or north of Chapel Street, and voters in Ward 4 who live west of the Finger Lakes Railway and north of Buffalo Street, are now part of Election District 2 in their respective wards. These voters will cast their ballots at the Canandaigua Emergency Squad building.
Both locations offer accessible, ground-level entrances and voting on the same floor as the entrance, according to officials.
What about voters in Canandaigua's Wards 2 and 3?
Voters in Ward 2 will continue to vote at the Salvation Army, 110 Saltonstall St.
Voters in Ward 3 will continue to vote at the Lutheran Church, 320 S. Pearl St.
The First United Methodist Church of Canandaigua will no longer serve as a polling location.
