They'll soon get the chance to prove it on the court.
But recent rankings from the New York Volleyball Coaches Association suggest that Section V could enjoy a customarily successful postseason on the statewide level.
Section V won two of the six NYSPHSAA titles awarded in girls' volleyball last season. This year, a whopping six Section V teams populate the top 20 for Class D alone in rankings based on matches played through Oct. 18.
Avoca/Prattsburgh holds the top spot in Class D. Two other Section V squads sit between it and defending state champion York, which sits at No. 9.
Victor holds the second spot in Class AA. Canandaigua checks in fourth in A.
