Believe it or not, the Class A teams in Section V football wrap up their regular season schedules this weekend.
Every other team has another game next weekend. Then, it is time for the postseason.
Four Friday games feature teams in one of the two Democrat and Chronicle Super 10 rankings.
Hilton plays at Rush-Henrietta. Both teams were handed their first loss of the season last week. Webster Schroeder faces Pittsford at Sutherland.
Victor takes on the Red Raiders at Fairport, a team aiming for a third consecutive win after an 0-4 start. Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga also looks for an upset, in a Livingston County/Genesee Region league match against Alexander/Pembroke. The game between small schools is at Pembroke, according to sectionv.org.
The large
schools rankings include teams in Class AA and Class A. Class B, Class C and Class D teams are eligible for a spot in the small schools Super 10.
Democrat and Chronicle writers Justin Ritzel, Jeff Uveino and James Johnson determine the rankings. Each reporter ranks the top 10 large schools and small schools teams in Section V.
The No. 1 teams on each list receive 10 points, the No. 2 teams receive nine points, the No. 3 teams receive eight points and so on.
Section V football Super 10, large schools

1. Brighton (6-0) - Class A - 30 points (3 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Shining moment: Scoring 21 points in the final three minutes of the first half, turning a showdown against Irondequoit into a runaway. Toughest setback: Things are going OK if your biggest complaint is that the No. 5 spot is too low in the Class A state rankings. The Bruins reached the 2025 state semifinals.
2. Pittsford (5-1) - Class AA - 27 points - Last week: 4.
Shining moment: Standing up to and defeating then undefeated Hilton, 21-14, on Oct. 9. Panthers middle linebacker Max Ciavarri finished with 13 tackles, eight solo. Toughest setback: The Panthers' only loss was 26-19 at Rush-Henrietta on Sept. 10. What would happen if a rematch took place this month?
3. Hilton (5-1) - Class A - 24 points - Last week: 2.
Shining moment: Oct. 2, the night Tyler Reger scored seven touchdowns during a 56-19 win at Webster Schroeder that moved Rich Lipani alone to No. 1 on the Section V coaching wins list. Toughest setback: The shocking loss to Pittsford on Oct. 9 at Hilton. It was a dramatic departure from Hilton's first five games, all won by at least four scores.
4. Rush-Henrietta (5-1) - Class AA - 19 points - Last week: 3.
Shining moment: Oct. 2, when quarterback Brendan Mangone had five touchdown runs and two touchdown passes during a runaway win over Penfield. Toughest setback: R-H's run defense was made to look a little mushy Oct. 8 at Victor. The Victor Blue Devils handed R-H its loss, 17-14.
5. Victor (4-2) - Class A - 18 points - Last week: 7T.
Shining moment: Going from a team that struggled to score at Pittsford, to 17-14 winners Oct. 8 over undefeated Rush-Henrietta. Senior running back Carter Abbate finished with 101 yards on 18 carries. Quarterback Eli Ricci scored the touchdowns. Andre Poselovich kicked a field goal. Toughest setback: Oct. 2 was a tough night for the Blue Devils, who lost at Pittsford Sutherland, 36-6. Victor's second loss probably is the only reason it remains behind Rush-Henrietta in the Super 10 despite the head-to-head win.
6. Canandaigua (5-1) - Class A - 12 points - Last week: 6.
Shining moment: Sept. 18 the Gray Wolves pushed around the Blue Devils at Brockport, winning 28-7. Brockport was the team that put Canandaigua out of last season's Section V Class A2 Tournament. Toughest setback: Fairport was winless when it defeated Canandaigua, 21-7 Oct. 2. Still, give the Gray Wolves credit for putting Class AA Fairport on the schedule.
7. University Prep (3-3) - Class AA - 10 points - Last week: 5.
Shining moment: Sept. 26, when all-stars Gavin White and Thomas Levans scored at least one touchdown, quarterback Eric Torres III had a touchdown pass and Briyceton Thomas had a strong game on both sides of the ball during a runaway win in Rochester over Buffalo Hutchinson Tech. Toughest setback: Sept. 18 at Rush-Henrietta, where UPrep suffered a second consecutive loss, 42-35.
8. Webster Schroeder (3-3) - Class A - 9 points - Last week: 9.
Shining moment: Believe it or not, maybe the team's season-opening 14-13 loss to Rush-Henrietta. R-H is viewed as a Section V Class AA title contender. Toughest setback: Oct. 2, the Warriors were overwhelmed by Hilton, 56-19, at Webster Schroeder.
9. Churchville-Chili (5-1) - Class A - 6 points - Last week: 7T.
Shining moment: Sept. 10, the Saints took their record to 2-0 after sophomore Austin Gefell kicked a 31-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining to give the team a 23-21 win over Webster Thomas. Toughest setback: Brighton showed that its team is at another level in Class A on Oct. 2, when the Bruins won 35-13 at Churchville-Chili.
10. (tied) Brockport (4-2) - Class A - 6 points - Last week: 10.
Shining moment: Oct. 9, when the Blue Devils clinched a winning record during the regular season with a 29-28 win at Honeoye Falls-Lima.
10. (tied) Fairport (2-4) - Class AA - 6 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Shining moment: Oct. 9 the Red Raiders won 26-13 at Penfield, giving them back-to-back wins. Fairport won three games in 2025. Toughest setback: Sept. 18, when the Red Raiders fell short of upsetting Pittsford, 37-33.
Also received votes: None.
Section V football Super 10, small schools

1. Monroe (6-0) - Class B - 30 points (3 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Shining moment: The 2025 Class B state champion has played one competitive game so far this season. That was Sept. 18 at East High. Monroe defeated East High/World of Inquiry, 12-7, after a seven-yard touchdown pass by Terrell Cunningham Jr. to Jason White-Perry with 9:58 remaining. Toughest setback: Two idle weeks. Batavia forfeited to Monroe on Oct. 10. Monroe lost its scheduled game on Oct. 17, when Wilson/Early College folded into the merged Edison team just before the start of the season.
2. East High/World of Inquiry (3-1) - Class B - 27 points - Last week: 2.
Shining moment: The Eagles were far from jumping for joy Oct. 9, but they defeated Class AA McQuaid, 21-14, despite failing to score in the second half. Toughest setback: The Tree Bowl on Sept. 18, when East/World of Inquiry met Monroe in a highly anticipated matchup in the Rochester City Athletic Conference. Monroe won that game at East High, 12-7, leaving East/World of Inquiry No. 2 and the Red Jackets at No. 1 in this Super 10.
3. Alexander/Pembroke (6-0) - Class C - 24 points - Last week: 3.
Shining moment: LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford could be the strongest threat to Alexander/Pembroke, the 2025 Section V Class C champion, but the Defenders turned back Cal-Mum, 29-14, on Oct. 3. Toughest setback: Alexander/Pembroke is behind five teams in the state rankings, including one-loss Bronxville of Section I and Schuylerville of Section II.
4. LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford (5-1) - Class C - 21 points - Last week: 4.
Shining moment: Sept. 25, the Rivals extended their winning streak to four games when they defeated Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton, 34-21. Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton plays in Class B, a group of larger schools. Toughest setback: A 29-14 loss to Alexander/Pembroke ended LeRoy/Cal-Mum's winning streak and denied the Rivals a head-turning win. But it seems more beneficial to play Alexander/Pembroke during the regular season instead of having an initial meeting in the Section V Class C Tournament.
5. Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga (5-1) - Class C - 16 points - Last week: 5.
Shining moment: Oct. 2 Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga defeated Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton, a team in a group of larger schools, 14-6. Since then, Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga's winning streak has grown to three games. Toughest setback: A 42-37 loss to LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford. A rematch in the Section V Class C Tournament could find Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga more comfortable and confident against the Rivals.
6. Honeoye Falls-Lima (3-3) - Class B - 12 points - Last week: 6.
Shining moment: Sept. 11, the Cougars went to Eastridge, a team that plays in a group of teams at larger schools, and won 20-13. HF-L came from behind to win that game. Toughest setback:Injuries have knocked key players out of the lineup at times throughout the season. This is not an easy circumstance to work around when there are Class A teams on the HF-L schedule.
7. York/Pavilion (5-1) - Class D - 9 points - Last week: 7.
Shining moment: A blowout win on the opponent's field Oct. 9, 35-0 over state-ranked Oakfield-Alabama. That means a three-game winning streak going into their matchup Oct. 16 at Avon. Toughest setback: York/Pavilion suffered its loss Sept. 18 at York, 20-13, at the hands of the Canisteo-Greenwood Chargers.
8. Canisteo-Greenwood (4-2) - Class D - 7 points - Last week: 8.
Shining moment: Sept. 18, the Chargers defeated York/Pavilion, 20-13. Through Oct. 13, York/Pavilion and Canisteo-Greenwood would be the top two seeds in the Section V Class D Tournament. Toughest setback: Oct. 2, Avon defeated Canisteo-Greenwood, 27-16, putting the Chargers right back on the roller coaster they appeared to have escaped.
9. (tied) Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw (4-2) - Class C - 6 points - Last week: 10T.
Shining moment: Sept. 4, Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw opened the season on a good note, defeating Geneva, 44-30. Toughest setback: Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga shut down Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw, 25-0 on Sept. 25. Both teams play in Section V Class C.
9. (tied) Wayne (5-1) - Class B - 6 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Shining moment: Oct. 9, the Eagles outscored Geneva 57-46. The win gave Wayne a five-game winning streak heading into its Oct. 16 game at Penn Yan. Wayne and Penn Yan/Dundee might be the best teams in the Wayne-Finger Lakes league.
Also received votes: Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton (Class B, 3-3), Attica (Class D, 4-2), Oakfield-Alabama/Elba (Class D, 4-2).
