President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday directing the federal government to rename Lake Ontario as "Lake America."
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum subsequently issued Secretary's Order 3453 directing the Department of the Interior to implement the change and update federal naming records.

The document outlines the federal government's instructions for changing references to Lake Ontario in official U.S. government records and publications.
What does the order say?
The order directs the Department of the Interior to update the federal Geographic Names Information System to reflect “Lake America.”
It also directs
federal agencies to use the new name in official documents, maps and other federal government materials.
The order gives the department and the U.S. Board on Geographic Names 30 days to complete the changes.
The name change applies to U.S. government usage. It does not require Canada or other countries to adopt “Lake America.”
Canadian officials have said they will continue to refer to the body of water as Lake Ontario.
