C.J. Gardner-Johnson let his mouth get him into trouble again.
The Buffalo Bills safety was ejected for spitting at a Las Vegas Raiders player late in the first half of Sunday's game at Allegiant Stadium.
The incident occurred with 15 seconds remaining in the second quarter, following an incomplete pass from Kirk Cousins intended for Tre Tucker.
Bills safety Cole Bishop was initially flagged for defensive holding, but officials continued discussing the play before announcing Gardner-Johnson's disqualification.
The reason for the ejection wasn't immediately clear.
CBS initially showed a replay of Gardner-Johnson exchanging words with Raiders tight end Brock Bowers after the play. An official stepped between them, apparently attempting to prevent the situation
from escalating.
After a television timeout, CBS showed another replay that confirmed Gardner-Johnson had spit at a Raiders player.
The broadcast also showed Bills coach Joe Brady shaking his head.
"Just something we don't want to see in the game, right? And the ejection is definitely warranted," CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore said.
Steratore added that the NFL league office would review the incident for possible additional discipline.
Gardner-Johnson was assessed a disqualification penalty, and the Raiders received 14 yards in addition to the 5-yard defensive holding penalty against Bishop.
The ejection left Buffalo without Gardner-Johnson for the remainder of the game.
