The Rochester Red Wings squandered a four-run lead in the eighth inning as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders rallied for a 9-8 victory Sunday at PNC Field.
Rochester trailed 3-1 entering the seventh inning before Leandro Pineda walked and Seaver King singled. Yohandy Morales followed with a single to load the bases, and Trey Lipscomb hit a grand slam to left-center, giving the Red Wings a 5-3 lead.
The Red Wings continued to add runs. Sam Petersen doubled and scored on Cayden Wallace’s single. Wallace later scored on Maxwell Romero Jr.’s double, extending Rochester’s lead to 7-3. King opened the eighth with a solo homer, his third hit of the afternoon, to make it 8-4.

inning. Yanquiel Fernández drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Oswaldo Cabrera scored on a wild pitch, Ernesto Martinez Jr. doubled home Duke Ellis, and RBI singles by Anthony Volpe and Jasson Domínguez put the RailRiders ahead 9-8.
King finished 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Petersen went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run, while Pineda, Lipscomb and King each homered for Rochester. Lipscomb drove in four runs.
Gus Varland was charged with the loss after allowing two unearned runs in two-thirds of an inning. Zach Messinger retired Rochester in order in the ninth for his second save for the RailRiders.
