Some people who receive Supplemental Security Income will receive two payments in October, while most Social Security recipients will continue to receive their benefits according to the Social Security Administration's regular schedule.
The two October payments apply to SSI recipients because the November SSI payment will arrive early. The change is due to way the calendar lines up with the payment schedule. It is not an extra benefit.
Here's what to know about Social Security and SSI payments in October 2026.
Why some people will get 2 SSI payments in October
SSI recipients will receive two payments in October: one on Thursday, Oct. 1, and another on Friday, Oct. 30.
The Oct. 1 payment is the regular October SSI benefit.
The Oct. 30 payment is actually the November SSI benefit. Because Nov. 1 falls
on a Sunday, the Social Security Administration will send the payment on the last weekday of October.
That means there will be no separate SSI payment during the month of November.
Social Security payment dates for October 2026

Most people who receive Social Security retirement benefits will receive their October payments according to the SSA's standard schedule.
The Social Security Administration has published its 2026 benefit payment schedule.

Supplemental Security Income is a separate program from Social Security retirement benefits.

- Age 65 or older
- Blind
- Living with a qualifying disability and who meet strict income and asset requirements
Some people receive both SSI and Social Security benefits.

Remaining SSI payment dates in 2026
According to the SSA's 2026 payment schedule, the remaining SSI payment dates are:
- Friday, Oct. 30: November payment
