Western New York tennis fans will once again have a hometown favorite to follow at the U.S. Open.
Jessica Pegula, the Buffalo native and daughter of Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula, is among the top American contenders at the 2026 U.S. Open. Pegula has frequently spoken about her connection to New York, telling USA TODAY Sports that the U.S. Open is her favorite tournament because she's from New York state and feels the home-state crowd gets behind her.
Pegula enters this year's tournament ranked No. 3 in the world, matching the highest ranking of her career. She is still seeking her first Grand Slam singles title after reaching the U.S. Open final in 2024.
The 2026 U.S. Open began Aug. 30 and runs through Sept. 13
at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens. The tournament is being televised on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC, with matches also available via ESPN's streaming platforms.
Pegula advanced to the second round of the U.S. Open with a straight-sets win over Elena-Gabriela Ruse on Sunday and is set to face fellow American Sofia Kenin on Sept. 2.
