A 74-year-old Palmyra man has been identified as the person killed in a one-vehicle crash involving a logging truck earlier this week, according to New York State Police.
George Zimmerman killed in Palmyra crash
George R. Zimmerman, of Palmyra, was driving a 2023 Kenworth logging truck south on State Route 21, south of Temple Road, at about 4:49 p.m. Aug. 10 when he failed to negotiate a curve, police said.
The truck left the roadway, overturned and came to rest near a large boulder.
Zimmerman was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters assisted in removing him from the vehicle, and the Wayne County coroner responded.
Investigation remains ongoing
New York State Police are continuing to investigate the crash through the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Palmyra Police Department,
Wayne County Sheriff's Office, East Palmyra Fire Department, Palmyra Fire Department and Mercy Flight EMS.
