A Wayne County man is accused of shooting down a sheriff's office drone during a police investigation in Savannah last month.
Deputies said a drone team was assisting police with aerial overwatch during a July 30 investigation near Aikens Road and Cotton Road. While in flight, the drone was struck by a projectile and its camera was damaged.
Kurtis Stack, 34, was arrested Aug. 12 on charges of criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. The sheriff's office has accused Stack of firing a rifle at the drone. Property records show he lives on Aikens Road.
Lt. Kevin Kuntz declined to comment on what brought police to the neighborhood, saying that investigation is ongoing, but confirmed Stack was not originally a target of the surveillance.
Damage to
the drone totals more than $1,500, according to the sheriff's office.
