Heavily trafficked state roads heading to and from the city of Canandaigua will begin seeing work on Monday, July 27.
Here's what drivers can expect.
Routes 5 and 20, from Geneva to Canandaigua
State Route 5 and U.S. Route 20 between Canandaigua and Geneva
will see slowdowns as crews begin a pavement project Monday.
Work will begin at the Geneva city line and move westward, according to state Department of Transportation officials.
The roadway will be reduced to one lane in spots in Hopewell, Seneca and Geneva. Alternating flows of traffic will be controlled by flaggers from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
The project is expected to run through Friday, Aug. 7.
Route 332, from Canandaigua to Farmington
State Route 332, between North Street in the town of Canandaigua and Loomis Road and Gateway Drive in the town of Farmington, will be reduced to a single lane in each direction weekdays between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. for another pavement project.
Work also begins Monday, July 27, and is expected to be completed by Friday, Aug. 21.
Of course, that leaves one major stretch of state roadway in Canandaigua requiring improvements.
What about fixing the potholes on Main Street, Canandaigua?
City officials still have no exact date on when the state will tackle the rough-riding Main Street in Canandaigua, according to City Manager John Goodwin.
But Goodwin was told by DOT officials that work could begin in mid-August. That could be roughly when these two other projects are completed.
Crews will mill first, then pave and most of the work will be done overnight, Goodwin said, one lane at a time. .
"We should have a new surface by Labor Day," Goodwin said.
A reminder for drivers
Drivers should anticipate travel delays during this time and are advised to seek alternate routes if possible.
Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones.
Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
