Once again, any shuffling in the Democrat and Chronicle Super 10 high school football rankings occurred in the middle and lower portions of the poll.
Which teams moved in and out is interesting, but Brighton and Monroe remain solid No. 1s.
For the second week in a row, one of the three first-place large schools votes went to other than Brighton. A hint about the identity of that team: It is led by the new leader on the Section V coaches wins list.
There are four games this week with matchups of ranked teams, including Pittsford at Hilton on Friday. A Thursday night matchup features Rush-Henrietta at Victor, while Oakfield-Alabama/Elba visits York/Pavilion on Friday.
Brockport at Honeoye Falls-Lima is a crossover matchup of ranked teams. The Class
A Brockport Blue Devils and Class B HF-L are working on winning streaks.
The large schools rankings include teams in Class AA and Class A. Class B, Class C and Class D teams are eligible for a spot in the small schools Super 10.
Democrat and Chronicle writers Justin Ritzel, Jeff Uveino and James Johnson determine the rankings. Each reporter ranks the top 10 large schools and small schools teams in Section V.
The No. 1 teams on each list receive 10 points, the No. 2 teams receive nine points, the No. 3 teams receive eight points and so on.
Section V football Super 10, large school

1. Brighton (5-0) - Class A - 29 points (2 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Rollout: Bruins coach Stephen Lian is waving his arms at college coaches to look at senior running back/linebacker Justin Medina. The Gates Chili defense will notice Medina on Friday at Brighton.
2. Hilton (5-0) - Class A - 28 points - Last week: 2.
Rollout: Seems the opinion that the Cadets are the best large schools team in Section V grows louder by the week. Whether Pittsford can slow the Cadets offense Friday night is a bigger question than whether Hilton can contain the Panthers passing game.
3. Rush-Henrietta (5-0) - Class AA - 24 points - Last week: 3.
Rollout: Royal Comets quarterback Brendan Mangone is red-hot. In Week 4, Mangone had five passes for touchdowns. Last week, the senior ran for five touchdowns. What happens Thursday night at Victor?
4. Pittsford (4-1) - Class AA - 21 points - Last week: 5.
Rollout: Friday night at Hilton is another chance for the Panthers to jump into the box with Section V's top teams. It seems as if someone has to dig hard to find a weakness in Hilton's offense or defense.
5. University Prep (3-2) - Class AA - 18 points - Last week: 7.
Rollout: UPrep's climb continues Friday night at Syracuse Christian Brothers Academy. Running back Briyceton Thomas seems to have sparked UPrep's offense. Can Thomas gain 100 yards for the second consecutive week? The question would be three consecutive weeks, but Thomas finished with 98 yards on Sept. 26.
6. Canandaigua (4-1) - Class A - 12 points - Last week: 4.
Rollout: A loss to Class AA Fairport is far from the end of the world. The Gray Wolves with their power running game can bounce back strong Friday at Eastridge.
7. (tied) Victor (3-2) - Class A - 8 points - Last week: 6.
Rollout: Turned back by the Pittsford Panthers, the Victor Blue Devils try to reach the end zone more Thursday night on home field against Rush-Henrietta. The Blue Devils will provide an indicator on whether the Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets can stand up to a power-running game that is not compromised by injuries like Penfield.
7. (tied) Churchville-Chili (4-1) - Class A - 8 points - Last week: 8.
Rollout: No shame in suffering a loss to Brighton. But now it's time to watch the Churchville-Chili Saints closely. Do the Saints bounce back at Spencerport on Friday, and how do they look during their attempt?
9. Webster Schroeder (2-3) - Class A - 6 points - Last week: 9.
Rollout: The Warriors might have fallen out of the Super 10, if they lost to any team last week but Hilton. They are on a two-game losing streak heading into a home game against Greece Athena.
10. Brockport (3-2) - Class A - 5 points - Last week: 10.
Rollout: Beat the Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars on Friday at HF-L, and the Brockport Blue Devils make it three wins in a row before hosting Batavia.
Also received votes: Eastridge (Class A, 3-2), Fairport (Class AA, 1-4).
Section V football Super 10, small school

1. Monroe (5-0) - Class B - 30 points (3 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Rollout: The Red Jackets really are 6-0, as they have received a forfeit win from Batavia. The teams were supposed to play in Batavia on Saturday. That means Monroe, when it comes to games, is idle for the next two weeks. The Red Jackets were supposed to play Wilson/Early College on Oct. 17, until the Wildcats folded into the merged Edison team just before the season started.
2. East High/World of Inquiry (3-1) - Class B - 27 points - Last week: 2.
Rollout: Next is a home game on Friday against Class AA McQuaid. Neither Vertus or the merged Edison team challenged the Eagles the last two weeks. It will be interesting to see whether the Knights provide more of a challenge.
3. Alexander/Pembroke (5-0) - Class C - 24 points - Last week: 3.
Rollout: Now there is no doubt, if there were any, after a 29-14 win over LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford. The 2025 Section V Class C champion is again the team to beat in that group. Pembroke/Alexander tries to remain undefeated, when it takes on Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton on Friday.
4. LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford (4-1) - Class C - 21 points - Last week: 4.
Rollout: No surprise that the Rivals do not move an inch after suffering their first loss of the season. The setback came from undefeated Alexander/Pembroke. A game against Wellsville/Belfast/Genesee Valley on Friday in Le Roy promises to get the Rivals back on the winning track.
5. Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga (4-1) - Class C - 15 points - Last week: 7T.
Rollout: Moving up like an elevator headed toward the top floor, thanks to winning back-to-back games. The team's loss on Sept. 18 came at the hands of LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford, then Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga defeated Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw and Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton.
6. Honeoye Falls-Lima (3-2) - Class B - 11 points - Last week: 5.
Rollout: A 7-6 win over Batavia is no case for a reward of a bucketful of style points. But a win is a win, and the Cougars try to win back-to-back games for the second time this season, Friday against Brockport.
7. York/Pavilion (3-1) - Class D - 8 points - Last week: 6.
Rollout: Key matchup on Friday night. York/Pavilion plays Oakfield-Alabama/Elba at York. Both teams are in Class D and in Division 2 of the Livingston County/Genesee Region league.
8. Canisteo-Greenwood (3-2) - Class D - 6 points - Last week: 7T.
Rollout: A loss to Avon last weekend should have dropped the Chargers behind the River Hawks. Canisteo-Greenwood has a chance to bounce back during a home game Friday night against Geneseo/Mount Morris.
9. Avon (3-2) - Class D - 5 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: The two-time defending Section V Class D champs jump back into this Super 10 after a win over Canisteo-Greenwood. Their two-game losing streak is over. They try to make it back-to-back wins Friday night at Genesee Community College, where Avon plays Batavia Notre Dame.
10. (tied) Oakfield-Alabama/Elba (4-1)- Class D - 4 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: A win over Batavia Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen helped put Oakfield-Alabama/Elba back into the rankings. The Hornets will move up in this Super 10, if they can win a home game against Pavilion/York on Friday night.
10. (tied) Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw (3-2)- Class D - 4 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: Can win back-to-back games for the first time this season Friday night at Bath Haverling.
Also received votes: Penn Yan/Dundee (Class B, 4-1), Geneva (Class B, 4-1), Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton (Class B, 3-2), Attica (Class D, 3-2), Wayne (Class B, 4-1).
