The Buffalo Bills added some much-needed depth at cornerback Tuesday.
Buffalo signed A.J. Woods to the practice squad after injuries left the Bills scrambling in the secondary during Sunday's 29-26 loss to the New England Patriots.
Starting cornerback Christian Benford missed the game because of a toe injury. Dee Alford suffered an ankle injury during the third quarter and did not return, while practice squad elevation Te'Cory Couch left with a hamstring injury.
That left the Bills with second-year cornerback Maxwell Hairston and rookies Davison Igbinosun and Kani Walker to finish the game. Backup safety Damar Hamlin also played snaps at nickel cornerback as Buffalo tried to piece together its secondary.
Defensive back Jordan Hancock is already on injured reserve because of a hamstring injury.
Woods, 25, originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Washington Commanders following the 2024 NFL Draft.
He has since spent time on the practice squads of the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons.
Woods spent four weeks on Denver's practice squad last season when current Bills defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard was the assistant head coach and defensive pass game coordinator.
Woods was with the Philadelphia Eagle's practice squad during the Eagles' Super Bowl championship season in 2024. He has yet to appear in an NFL regular season game.
He was also teammates with Bills safety Damar Hamlin at Pittsburgh during the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
Woods played 59 games during five seasons at Pittsburgh from 2019-23 and finished with 105 tackles, 25 passes defensed, four interceptions and one forced fumble.
The Bills visit the Los Angeles Rams at 8:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12.
