Believe it or not, most Section V football teams have reached the halfway point of their regular-season schedules.
Not much has changed at the top of the Democrat and Chronicle Super 10 team rankings since the kickoff of the season.
Brighton, a state finalist in Class A in 2025, remains No. 1 in the large schools Super 10. The large schools rankings include teams in Class AA and Class A.
Monroe, the 2025 Class B state champion, sits at the top of the small schools Super 10. The small schools rankings include teams in Class B, Class C and Class D.
Democrat and Chronicle writers Justin Ritzel, Jeff Uveino and James Johnson determine the rankings. Each reporter lists who they believe are the best 10 teams from large and small schools in Section V.
The No. 1 teams on each list receive 10 points, the No. 2 teams receive nine points, the No. 3 teams receive eight points and so on.
The Monroe Red Jackets defeated small schools No. 2 East High/World of Inquiry last weekend.This weekend features four Super 10 matchups: Irondequoit at Hilton, Webster Schroeder at Victor, Honeoye Falls-Lima at Monroe and Dansville/Wayland-Cohcoton vs. LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford
Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton is the only newcomer to either of the rankings. York/Pavilion has a chance to jump back in with a win over undefeated Batavia Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen.
Section V football Super 10, large school
1. Brighton(3-0) - Class A - 30 points (3 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Rollout: Three touchdown passes for junior Ethan Bialaszewski gives him seven for the season. Homecoming week is next for the run-first Bruins, a Saturday afternoon game against Webster Thomas.
2. Hilton(3-0) - Class A - 26 points - Last week: 2.
Rollout: One more win and Rich Lipani moves into a tie at No. 1 on the Section V Football coaches win list. It's homecoming week at Hilton, where the Cadets host Irondequoit.
3. Rush-Henrietta (3-0) - Class AA - 25 points - Last week: 3.
Rollout: The offensive explosion many expected from the Royal Comets arrived last week against University Prep. Their season looks more impressive with time, and continues at Fairport.
4. Canandaigua(3-0) - Class A - 19 points - Last week: 5.
Rollout: Left no doubt which was the better team last Friday at Brockport. Next order of business at Canandaigua is to cool off Greece Arcadia.
5. Pittsford(2-1) - Class AA - 18 points - Last week: 8.
Rollout: A little bit of a surprise that the Panthers are the big climbers in this Super 10. They take their last-minute win over Fairport to Penfield, the team that defeated the Panthers in the 2025 Section V Class AA final.
6. Webster Schroeder (2-1) - Class A - 17 points - Last week: 6.
Rollout: The Warriors scored 32 points and shut out Penfield last week.. What will they do under the lights at Victor this Friday?
7. Churchville-Chili (2-0) - Class A - 9 points - Last week: 9.
Rollout: The Saints made their Super 10 debut last week and remain after a 10-point home-field win over Vertus. Next is what we will call the "Chili Bowl", Churchville-Chili versus Gates Chili (1-2).
8. (tied) Victor (2-1) - Class A - 6 points - Last week: 4.
Rollout: Time to rebound. Can the Blue Devils get back on track at home against Webster Schroeder? It is another tough assignment.
8. (tied) University Prep (1-2) - Class AA - 6 points - Last week: 7.
Rollout: The slide for UPrep continues after back-to-back losses. But Liverpool from Section III or Syracuse region and Rush-Henrietta remain undefeated.
8. (tied) Irondequoit(2-1) - Class A - 6 points - Last week: 10T.
Rollout: The Eagles could soar even higher in the Super 10 with a win at Hilton on Friday night.
Also received votes: Eastridge (Class A, 2-1), Greece Arcadia (Class A, 2-1).
Section V football Super 10, small school
1. Monroe(3-0) - Class B - 30 points (3 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Rollout: The Red Jackets were in a tight one for once. They left East High with a 12-7 win after scoring a touchdown early in the fourth quarter and keeping the East High/World of Inquiry out of the end zone.
2. (tied) East High/World of Inquiry (1-1) - Class B - 26 points - Last week: 2.
Rollout: There was plenty of frustration on the Eagles' sideline after holding state champion Monroe to two touchdowns but scoring only one of their own. The Eagles are sure to score more against the winless merged Edison team.
2. (tied) Alexander/Pembroke (3-0) - Class C - 26 points - Last week: 3.
Rollout: It's fair to say that the Defenders have not faced a stiff challenge so far. Their next game at Bath Haverling (0-3) might not fit that description either.
4. Honeoye Falls-Lima (2-1) - Class B - 20 points - Last week: 5.
Rollout: Make that two wins in a row for the Cougars, after defeating Greece Olympia/Odyssey. What will they do at Monroe on Friday night?
5. LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford (3-0) - Class C - 17 points - Last week: 6.
Rollout: Interesting game for the Rivals this Friday night at Caledonia-Mumford. Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton is undefeated, but LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford will be its strongest opponent so far.
6. Batavia Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen (2-0) - Class D - 15 points - Last week: 7.
Rollout: Challengers to this undefeated Livingston County/Genesee Region team begin to line up again this week. Batavia Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen faces York/Pavilion (2-1) at Genesee Community College on Friday. Next week is a game at Oakfield-Alabama/Elba.
7. Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw (2-1) - Class C - 8 points - Last week: 9T.
Rollout: Back on a roll after scoring 63 points last week. Take on Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga at Hornell on Friday.
8. Oakfield-Alabama/Elba (3-0) - Class C - 7 points - Last week: 9T
Rollout: Let's apologize to the Aggies for listing the Livingston County/Genesee Region team with a loss last week. Oakfield-Alabama/Elba did not stumble against Finney, Geneseo/Mount Morris or Attica. The Aggies play at Canisteo-Greenwood (2-1) on Friday.
9. Avon(2-1) - Class D - 6 points - Last week: 4.
Rollout: A one-point loss to Geneseo/Mount Morris shook up the rankings a little bit. The River Hawks hope to begin another climb this Friday night at Attica.
10. Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton (3-0) - Class B - 7 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: The volume on a quiet undefeated season cranks up Friday night, if Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton defeats undefeated No. 5 LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford.
Also received votes: Canisteo-Greenwood (Class D, 2-1), Geneseo/Mount Morris (Class D, 2-1).
