Anyone traveling on state Route 104 in Irondequoit might have noticed a new sign for The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester on the exterior of Skyview on the Ridge.
Work is underway on the new location, which is being called Beacon Place, and the first phase of the redevelopment is complete. The organization’s education prevention team, which brings personal safety programs to local schools and community organizations, is working out of the new space along with some administrative staff.
All of the advocacy center’s services for children and families who have endured the trauma of severe physical abuse, sexual abuse, fatality or witness to a violent crime remain at the existing Skalny Building location at 1 Mt. Hope Ave. The goal is to bring
the advocacy center’s full team together at Beacon Place by the end of 2028.
The Child Advocacy Center and Willow Domestic Violence Center received $4.2 million in state funding to co-locate their organizations at Skyview on the Ridge in September 2024. Mark and Maureen Davitt donated $1.5 million to the advocacy center’s new program at Beacon Place in 2024.
“We serve an average of 1,700 children every year, and Beacon Place will give our team room to grow so we can help even more. We’re excited about what’s ahead and look forward to sharing more with the community when we’re ready,” said Jeff Pier, president and CEO of The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester, in a statement.
