A 4-year-old boy was found unresponsive in a private swimming pool in Phelps, Ontario County, on Wednesday, authorities said.
Boy found unresponsive in family pool
Emergency responders were called to a Franklin Street residence Wednesday, Aug. 26, after a 4-year-old boy was found unresponsive in a swimming pool on his family's property, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.
Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione said the boy had been out of sight for between five and 15 minutes before he was found unresponsive in the pool.
Authorities arrived to find family members and a neighbor performing CPR on the child.
Boy regains pulse on way to hospital
Emergency responders worked to revive the boy for about 25 minutes at the scene before he was taken to Clifton Springs Hospital, deputies said.
The boy regained a pulse
while being transported by ambulance. He was stabilized at the hospital, where his pulse and blood pressure returned and remained stable, deputies said. He was then flown to Strong Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
The boy, who was not identified by authorities, was listed in guarded condition in the hospital's pediatric intensive care unit Thursday morning, deputies said.
"The combined efforts of the family and neighbor, performing immediate CPR, the medical expertise including advanced life support provided on scene by firefighters, EMTs and paramedics, medical care provided by the team in the Emergency Department of Clifton Springs Hospital, expert care in flight by Mercy Flight Central and continuing care at Golisano Children's Hospital are why this child continues to fight this morning," Cirencione said in a news release.
