A Buffalo Bills linebacker is staying in the AFC East.
Just not with the Bills.
The Miami Dolphins signed Andre Jones Jr. off Buffalo's practice squad and added him to their 53-man roster.
Jones spent last season with the Bills and returned this summer to compete for a roster spot. The 6-foot-5, 258-pound outside linebacker recorded nine tackles and a sack during the preseason before being waived during final cuts and re-signed to Buffalo's practice squad.
He'll get an opportunity on Miami's active roster and reunite with a familiar coach.
Dolphins special teams coordinator Chris Tabor held the same position with Buffalo last season and coached Jones during his first year with the Bills.
Jones appeared in three regular-season games for Buffalo last
season, recording five tackles. He also played in the Bills' Wild Card victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars and made one tackle.
Jones, 27, originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick by the Washington Commanders in the 2023 NFL Draft.
He appeared in 16 games with two starts during two seasons with Washington before joining Buffalo. He has played in 19 career regular-season games with 10 tackles and three passes defended.
Much of Jones' NFL experience has come on special teams. He played 44 special teams snaps in three games with Buffalo last season after logging 250 during his two seasons with Washington.
Jones played six seasons at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he finished with 209 tackles, 17.5 sacks and 30 tackles for loss. He was named second-team All-Sun Belt after recording a career-high 7.5 sacks during his final season.
Buffalo filled the opening on its practice squad Wednesday by signing defensive tackle Austin Johnson.
The Dolphins are 0-2 and host the Kansas City Chiefs at 1 p.m. Sunday.
