New York State Police have identified the motorcyclist killed Tuesday in a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Herkimer County.
Wayne County motorcyclist identified
Matthew J. Cole, 21, of Wolcott in Wayne County, died Tuesday morning after his motorcycle crashed into a tractor-trailer on State Route 8 in the town of Ohio, according to New York State Police.
Motorcycle strikes tractor-trailer
Cole was riding north on State Route 8 around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, when he failed to negotiate a curve, troopers said.
The motorcycle crossed into the southbound lane and struck an oncoming tractor-trailer, police said. The motorcycle then left the roadway and struck a tree.
Cole was pronounced dead at the scene.
Truck driver not injured
Troopers evaluated the tractor-trailer driver, a 47-year-old man from Ontario, Canada, and determined he was
not impaired or injured.
Investigation continues
State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
