Your vote will determine who will be the Turf Masters Football Sports Athlete of the Week for September 21-27. The players' credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will be announced on our Instagram page Thursday.
The nominees are chosen by our sports reporters. If you would like to call attention to an athlete's performance to be considered for the nomination, please email sports@democratandchronicle.com. All athletes who play on Section V football teams are eligible to be nominated.
Now, let's meet the candidates.
Terrence Barner
Monroe senior had a rushing touchdown, while gaining 81 yards on four carries, caught a pass for a 32-yard touchdown and
intercepted a pass during a 58-0 win over Honeoye Falls-Lima.
Harrison Engle
McQuaid quarterback, a junior, had two touchdown passes and scored on a one-yard run during the team's 27-7 win at Aquinas.
Kaysean Hines
Churchville-Chili defensive back brought in two interceptions, and returned one for a pick-six, in the Saints 35-14 win over Gates Chili on Friday.
Brendan Mangone
Rush-Henrietta senior finished with five touchdown passes, as the Royal Comets won 35-7 at Fairport.
Tyler Reger
Hilton senior running back had a 22-yard touchdown pass, caught two passes for 59 yards, gained 57 yards on four carries and intercepted a pass on defense during a 58-7 win over Irondequoit.
Briyceton Thomas
University Prep senior running back/linebacker scored a rushing touchdown while gaining 98 yards on eight carries, returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown, forced a fumble and made seven tackles during a 41-12 win over Buffalo Hutchinson Tech.
Travis Tolbert
Geneva senior running back scored four touchdowns as he finished with 260 all-purpose yards, including a 79-yard kickoff return, during a 46-8 win over Marcus Whitman. He finished with 181 rushing yards on eight carries.
Brien Walker
Monroe receiver totaled eight receptions for 171 yards and three scores in the Red Jackets’ win against Honeoye Falls-Lima on Friday.
Colten Waterman
Greece Athena tight end hauled in eight passes for 112 yards and three touchdowns in the Trojans’ 40-24 win against Spencerport on Saturday.
