What is 'No Kings'?
"No Kings" is a coalition of activist and organizing groups that includes the American Federation of Teachers, Black Voters Matter Fund, Voto Latino, Indivisible, MoveOn and Public Citizen.
The coalition says its name reflects opposition to what organizers describe as President Donald Trump's efforts to expand presidential power.
The group has organized multiple nationwide days of action, including demonstrations across the country in March 2026.
How is this 'No Kings' day different?
The Oct. 17 event is focused on voter participation ahead of the November midterm elections.
Indivisible co-founder Ezra Levin said the effort will emphasize organizing people to vote rather than simply sending a political message.
"We're not just sending a message with this next No Kings," Levin said in a news release. "We're taking back power for the people using our constitutional right to organize and our constitutional right to vote."
Events are organized locally, so activities will vary by community. Organizers say they could include rallies, community gatherings and efforts to help eligible voters make a plan to cast their ballots.
The No Kings website describes its events as nonpartisan and says they are intended to increase participation among eligible voters.
