A Rochester man was among two people injured after a tractor-trailer crashed into a concrete barrier in an active work zone on the New York State Thruway in Onondaga County, according to New York State Police.
Tractor-trailer crashes into barrier
State Police responded around 9:30 a.m. Sept. 17 to the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 in the town of Van Buren for a report of a jackknifed tractor-trailer.
Investigators said Steven Garpue Nauhn, 38, of Rochester, was driving a 2020 Freightliner westbound in the left lane through an active work zone when he lost control and struck a concrete barrier.
The impact pushed the barrier into the eastbound lanes. Three eastbound vehicles then became involved in a chain-reaction crash as drivers attempted to avoid the barrier.

Nauhn and the driver
of one of the other vehicles were transported to Upstate University Hospital with minor injuries.
Speed appeared to be a contributing factor in the crash.
Nauhn was issued tickets for vehicle and traffic law violations and is scheduled to appear in Van Buren Town Court at a later date.
Police remind drivers to slow down in work zones
State Police reminded motorists to slow down, remain alert and comply with New York's Move Over Law when driving through work zones.
According to State Police, there were 228 crashes in Thruway work zones in 2025, resulting in 28 injuries.
