Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced more than $97 million in support of improvements to alternative transportation options in local communities across New York State, including the town of Brighton.
Through the Federal Highway Administration’s Transportation Alternatives Program, 30 communities across New York will receive awards administered by the state Department of Transportation to support initiatives that will improve access and safety to multi-modal transportation systems for people of all abilities, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Awarded funds will contribute to the construction of new sidewalks, crosswalks, shared use paths and other enhancements for alternative transportation methods.
“The Transportation Alternatives Program is
paving the way for new opportunities to connect communities across New York State," state Sen. Jeremy Cooney said in a statement. "This $1.4 million investment in the Lehigh Valley Trail will improve connections to the University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology, two institutions that serve as major hubs for education and innovation in our region."
