The Buffalo Bills are giving fans a new way to experience new Highmark Stadium. No game ticket required.
The team has opened the Highmark Trail, a 1.7-mile interactive walking loop around new Highmark Stadium featuring fitness challenges, photo opportunities and Bills-themed attractions. The trail is free and open to the public year-round.
"It's a path, but a path with purpose," Bills senior vice president of design Frank Cravotta said in a video unveiling the trail.
Beginning across from the Family Circle outside the stadium's north entrance on Abbott Road, the trail loops around the facility with blue mile markers tracking walkers' progress.
Along the way, fans can race a timed 40-yard dash, test their broad jump, warm up like the Bills and pose
for photos inside a giant Bills helmet or with a "Buffalo Strong" powerlifting display featuring a bent barbell.
One of the trail's signature attractions is "Musical Rush," where visitors hop, skip or step across football yard lines that play iconic sounds familiar to Bills fans.
"We've really tried to take this thing to the next level," Cravotta said. "There's a mix of static and interactive elements that make up the trail."
Highmark vice president of community affairs Michael Ball said the project reflects the company's mission of promoting healthier communities while creating another gathering place for Bills fans.
The Highmark Trail is now open to the public as the new $2.2 billion Highmark Stadium nears completion.
