A bicyclist died Monday evening after he was struck by three vehicles in Auburn, Cayuga County, according to New York State Police.
Bicyclist struck by three vehicles
The 41-year-old man was riding a bicycle north on State Route 326, also known as Veterans Memorial Parkway, shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, when he attempted to cross the westbound lanes of State Routes 5 and 20 against a red traffic signal, troopers said.
A westbound pickup truck had a green light when the bicyclist entered the driver's path. The truck struck him, throwing him from his bicycle and into the rear cab of another westbound pickup truck, according to State Police.
A third westbound vehicle then approached the scene and attempted to drive around the stopped pickup trucks. The driver did not see the bicyclist,
who had landed in the roadway, and struck him, troopers said.
Bicyclist died at hospital
The bicyclist was taken to Auburn Community Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to State Police.
His name had not been released as of Tuesday.
