A pilot was killed Friday aftertwo glider planes collided in midair in Edinburg, according to New York State Police.
Edinburg is a town in Saratoga County near Great Sacandaga Lake in eastern New York.
Glider planes collide in Edinburg
State Police responded about 2:26 p.m. Sept. 18 to a report of a two-aircraft collision near Wheeler Road in Edinburg.
Investigators determined two glider planes collided in the air. One of the planes landed safely at nearby Plateau Sky Ranch Airport, and the pilot was not injured.
Pilot found dead at crash site
With assistance from State Police Aviation, New York State Forest Rangers and the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, debris from one of the aircraft was found about 4:54 p.m. in a remote area off Sand Lake Road.
Investigators, assisted by multiple agencies and local fire
departments, later located the glider's crash site. The pilot, who was the only person aboard the aircraft, was found dead at the scene, State Police said.
The pilot's name was not released Friday pending notification of family members.
Investigation continues
The investigation remains ongoing. State Police said the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified.
