Wegmans Food Markets will open its newest store Wednesday, Oct. 14, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The new store in the Ballantyne neighborhood will be Wegmans’ fifth location in North Carolina, bringing the Gates-based grocery chain’s total to 114 stores.
About Wegmans’ new Charlotte store
Located at 11550 North Community House Road, the 110,000-square-foot store is less than a half-mile from The Bowl at Ballantyne, a mixed-use development with apartments, retail shops, restaurants and entertainment options.
The store will feature Wegmans’ traditional departments, including produce, seafood, meat, bakery, deli and cheese, along with prepared foods, Meals2Go and a large beer and wine section.
Wegmans worked with real estate firm Northwood Office to secure the Charlotte location. When
plans were announced in 2024, Clifton Coble, Northwood’s senior vice president of development, said the community needed a more experiential grocery store.
“Wegmans, of course, was top of mind,” Coble said, adding that the company was excited to welcome the popular East Coast grocer to Ballantyne.
The store will employ 450 full- and part-time workers.
Wegmans’ other North Carolina stores are in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, West Cary and Wake Forest.
The company operates stores across nine Eastern states and the District of Columbia. Wegmans celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016 and has been named one of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For for 29 consecutive years, ranking No. 5 in 2026.
When does the new Wegmans open?
The Ballantyne store is scheduled to open at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, according to Wegmans.
The company expects a large turnout and will allow overnight tailgating in the store’s parking lot starting Tuesday, Oct. 13. Wegmans will provide staff to oversee the festivities, along with portable restrooms and handwashing stations, the company confirmed last month.
