Groups behind the "No Kings" protests are planning a nationwide day of action this fall aimed at encouraging voter turnout.
The No Kings Coalition announced Tuesday, Sept. 8, that it is organizing a day of coordinated efforts to encourage people to vote early. While protesters have previously taken to the streets under the "No Kings" name, organizers say this event will have a different focus: helping communities make plans to vote and encouraging people to cast their ballots before Election Day whenever possible.
Events are planned in roughly 160 cities across 38 states, including New York, according to the coalition. That number is expected to increase in the coming weeks.

The group said events could include rallies, block parties and walks to the polls, with the goal of encouraging people to vote early.

Yes. The following New York locations currently have events listed:
- Rochester
- Corning
- Saranac Lake
- Kingston
- New York City
- Brooklyn
- South Huntington
- Port Jefferson Station
More events may be added by local organizers. A current list is available through the coalition's event page.
What is "No Kings"?
"No Kings" is a coalition of activist and organizing groups that includes the American Federation of Teachers, Black Voters Matter Fund, Voto Latino, Indivisible, MoveOn and Public Citizen.
The coalition says the name reflects its opposition to what organizers describe as President Donald Trump's efforts to expand presidential power.
The coalition has organized multiple nationwide days of action. Its March 2026 event included demonstrations across the country.
How is this "No Kings" day different?
The Oct. 17 day of action is focused on voter participation ahead of the November midterm elections.
Indivisible co-founder Ezra Levin said the event will focus on organizing people to vote rather than simply sending a political message.
"We're not just sending a message with this next No Kings," Levin said in a news release. "We're taking back power for the people using our constitutional right to organize and our constitutional right to vote."
Events are organized locally, so the format can vary by community. Organizers say activities could include rallies, community gatherings and efforts to help people make plans to vote.
The No Kings website describes its events as nonpartisan and says they are designed to increase participation among eligible voters.
When is early voting in New York?
New York's nine-day early voting period for the 2026 general election runs from Saturday, Oct. 24, through Sunday, Nov. 1, according to the New York State Board of Elections. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
That means the Oct. 17 No Kings day of action will take place one week before early voting begins in New York.
The state's voter registration deadline for the general election is Oct. 24.
