One of the Buffalo Bills' co-leaders in interceptions from two years ago is back.
The Bills signed 6-foot-4, 314-pound defensive tackle Austin Johnson to their practice squad Wednesday.
Johnson tied for the team lead with two interceptions in 2024, the only two picks of his 10-year NFL career.
His return comes at a useful time for Buffalo's defensive line.
Ed Oliver did not practice Wednesday because of the hip injury that kept him out of last week's win against the Detroit Lions. Oliver was a late addition to the injury report and was ruled out after experiencing hip spasms before the game.
T.J. Sanders also did not practice Wednesday because of an illness. Sanders has yet to play this season.
Johnson, 32, appeared in 15 games with one start during
his first season with Buffalo. He finished with 19 tackles and a half-sack to go along with those two interceptions.
His first career interception came against Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith on Oct. 27, 2024. Johnson added another three weeks later against Joe Flacco and the Indianapolis Colts.
He was one of seven Bills players to finish with two interceptions that season.
Johnson spent last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, appearing in 14 games and recording 12 tackles and one sack.
Johnson was originally selected by the Tennessee Titans in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with Tennessee before playing for the New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, Bills and Jaguars.
Johnson has appeared in 145 regular-season games with 56 starts over 10 seasons. He has 272 tackles, 9.5 sacks and two interceptions.
The Bills host Los Angeles at 1 p.m. Sunday at new Highmark Stadium.
Buffalo had an opening on its practice squad after linebacker Andre Jones Jr. signed with the Miami Dolphins off the Bills' practice squad Tuesday.
