CANANDAIGUA — The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County is offering master gardener workshops and help with other seasonal events this fall.
Its popular fall plant sale helps kick off the autumn season and helps you prepare for the upcoming holidays.
Here's what's happening.
Ontario County master gardener fall plant sale
The sale will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County office, 480 N. Main St., Canandaigua.
The plants come from the home gardens of Ontario County master gardeners, and they include a variety of perennials, bulbs, shrubs and house plants.
Cash or check will be accepted for purchases. Master gardeners will be available to answer plant-related questions.

Natural Ornaments and Home Décor Craft Class
This class will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the extension office in Canandaigua.
Participants will create ornaments and decorations using natural materials such as pinecones, seed heads, milkweed pods, branches and vines, wood slices, greenery, dried flowers and more.
All materials will be provided. Feel free to bring dried plant materials and tools.

Second Pumpkin Smash and Compost Bash
This free event will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Ontario County Fairgrounds, 2820 County Road 10, Canandaigua.
The Cooperative Extension in partnership with Ontario County Sustainability and Solid Waste will be hosting a pumpkin collection event to help keep organic material out of the landfill. Bring pumpkins and wear closed-toed shoes for some pumpkin smashing and composting education.
Smashing zones will be set up for participants to smash their pumpkins, and a few local robotics teams will be creating pumpkin-throwing robots.
Holiday Greens Workshop
This workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 5, at the extension office.
Participants will learn to craft wreaths, centerpieces, candy canes or all three. Fresh evergreen fronds, wreath frame, wire and a selection of ribbon and pinecones will be provided. Participants may bring additional decorations, and they are encouraged to bring gloves and garden snipers.
The centerpiece class starts at 9 a.m.; wreath class, 10 a.m.; candy cane, 11 a.m. The cost is $20 per item, with a maximum of three per person.
