Rochester hosts second-annual statewide NY passenger rail conference

This week, Rochester is hosting the second annual statewide passenger rail conference, presented by the Empire State Passengers Foundation.

This event is a one-day opportunity for statewide community leaders, government and business officials to focus on improving intercity passenger rail services.

Experts will give presentations and speak on panels to discuss the potential impact investing in more frequent, higher-speed passenger rail can have on communities across the state.

“The Foundation looks forward to discussing New York's 90-B Passenger Rail Improvement Plan at the event,” Steve Strauss, Executive Director of the Foundation's sister organization, the Empire State Passengers Association, said in a statement. “Better Amtrak service upstate

would improve mobility and drive real economic growth across New York state.”

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, participants will gather to learn, share, strategize, and network with rail industry, tourism, specialists and stakeholders. Some confirmed speakers include:

• Richard Kedzior, passenger rail program manager for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation
• James Flattum, director of outreach for Coloradans for the Colorado Connector
• Jared Kraham, mayor of the City of Binghamton

State representatives will also gather with SUNY representatives on a panel to discuss opportunities for students, employees and pedestrians. The panels will also analyze how officials can improve transportation infrastructure and economic development.

Ticket registration is open starting at $45 for full-time students and $60 for late registration.

The conference will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Duke located inside the Mercantile on Main located at 240 East Main St.
