Section V closed the book on the first week of high school football with six games on Saturday's slate.
Half of those contests featured out-of-section opponents. Here are the top individual performances from the final day of Week 1:
Kellan Campe, Aquinas: Sophomore safety had four tackles and an interception in the Lil Irish's 31-12 loss to Section IV's Horseheads. Fellow 10th-grader Capone Moxley also picked off a pass to go with three tackles. Senior linebackers Curtis McFarland and Mike Martell shared the team-lead with nine tackles apiece.
Pooty Cunningham, Monroe: Threw for five touchdowns and ran for another to lead a 66-0 victory against Edison/SOTA/Padilla.
Ray Garcia, Monroe: Rushed for one touchdown and returned a punt for another in a 66-0
win at Edison/SOTA/Padilla.
Kaliem Smith, Aquinas: Senior running back totaled 154 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard score, in the Lil Irish's 31-12 loss to Section IV's Horseheads.
Briyceton Thomas, UPrep: Running back reeled off 205 yards and two touchdowns in 18 rush attempts in the Griffins' 30-3 win over Bishop Timon-St. Jude.
Eric Torres, UPrep: Griffins quarterback, playing in his first game since transferring from Irondequoit, completed 12 of his 18 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns in a victory over Bishop Timon-St. Jude. Torres' two touchdown throws went to Gavin White (three receptions, 69 yards) and Thomas Levans (five receptions, 101 yards).
Brien Walker, Monroe: Caught three touchdown receptions during the first quarter of Monroe's 66-0 victory at Edison/SOTA/Padilla, including one on each of the Red Jackets' first two offensive plays from scrimmage.
