A fisherman who became lost after walking about two miles downstream in the Adirondacks was found after his roommate heard him calling for help in the middle of the night.
New York State forest rangers responded around 1:18 a.m. July 14 to St. Regis Falls after a report of someone yelling for help near the St. Regis River in the town of Waverly, Franklin County, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The 31-year-old from Santa Clara, Franklin County, had gone fishing the previous morning before becoming lost. The DEC said the fisherman walked downstream before trying to head back toward home as the sun began to set.
Unable to see through the darkness and thick vegetation, the fisherman began calling for help.
At about 12:30 a.m., the man's roommate heard the cries and called 911.
As forest rangers searched the area, members of the St. Regis Falls Fire Department located the fisherman and helped him back to the roadway, where he was evaluated by EMS before returning home.
Members of the Dickinson Fire Department also assisted in the search. The incident concluded around 3:55 a.m.
