It's time to take a look at the standout performers from Section V.
Your vote will determine who will be the Turf Masters Football Sports Athlete of the Week for September 7-13. The players' credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will be announced on our Instagram page Thursday.
The nominees are chosen by our sports reporters. If you would like to call attention to an athlete's performance to be considered for the nomination, please email sports@democratandchronicle.com. All athletes who play on Section V football teams are eligible to be nominated.
Now, let's meet the candidates.
Taye Brown Jr.
A senior on the East/World of Inquiry team who finished with three rushing touchdowns, a passing touchdown and a touchdown reception,
as the Eagles defeated Aquinas, 49-0. Brown, who became the Eagles quarterback last season during the team's drive to a Section V championship, was 7 of 9 passing for 110 yards, carried seven times for 105 yards and had a 65-yard reception.
James Chase
Avon junior scored a touchdown on all three of his rushing attempts in a 47-0 win over Holley/Lyndonville. Chase has now scored seven touchdowns on 12 touches this season.
Wesley Childs
Brockport junior rushed for 247 yards on 25 carries in a 29-26 victory over Greece Arcadia while recording two quarterback sacks on defense.
Cody Crandell
Scored three rushing touchdowns for the Wayne Eagles, 42-14 winners over Newark/Marion. Crandell finished with 165 rushing yards on 19 carries.
Benny Feinberg
Honeoye Falls-Lima quarterback had two touchdown runs and threw a pass for a touchdown to help the Cougars comeback from a 13-point deficit and win 20-13 at Eastridge. Feinberg finished 10 of 20 passing for 169 yards and ran for 41 yards on 18 carries.
Ray Garcia
Monroe senior returned a pair of punts for touchdowns in the Red Jackets’ win against McQuaid on Friday. Garcia ran for distances of 59 and 49 yards.
Austin Gefell
Churchville-Chili sophomore kicker drilled a 31-yard field goal with seven seconds left to lift the Saints over Webster Thomas.
Brayden Kitchens
Lyons/Sodus quarterback completed 13 of his 15 attempts for 213 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-0 win against Waterloo/Mynderse.
Brendan Mangone
Rush-Henrietta quarterback threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in the Royal Comets’ 26-19 win against Pittsford on Thursday.
