The Buffalo Bills waited 20 years to win another game in Houston.
They made up for lost time.
Josh Allen added to an NFL record, Dalton Kincaid did something no Bills tight end had done in nearly six decades
and Buffalo put together a pair of drives that had never happened in franchise history during a 36-31 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday.
Joe Brady even made a little history of his own in his first game as an NFL head coach.
Here are seven remarkable stats from the Bills' season-opening win over the Texans.
Bills made history with two 96-yard touchdown drives
Buffalo didn't just drive 96 yards for the winning touchdown.
The Bills did it twice.
Buffalo had a 10-play, 96-yard touchdown drive late in the second quarter, capped by Allen's 43-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Moore. The Bills then went 96 yards again in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, with Allen finding Joshua Palmer for the winning 34-yard touchdown with 1:36 remaining.
It was the first time Buffalo had two touchdown drives of at least 96 yards in the same game since individual drives began being tracked in 1993.
Only five NFL teams have accomplished the feat during that span.
The final one was especially dramatic. Buffalo took over at its own 4-yard line trailing 31-30 with 3:13 remaining and needed just seven plays and 1:37 to go 96 yards.
Josh Allen extended an NFL record
Allen did a little bit of everything against Houston.
The Bills quarterback completed 20 of 29 passes for 334 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for touchdowns of 21 and 1 yards.
It was the ninth game of Allen's career with at least two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns, extending his NFL record.
How far ahead is he?
Allen now has five more than any other player in NFL history. Steve Young is second with four such games.
D.J. Moore and Dalton Kincaid matched a Bills feat from 1992
Buffalo had a 100-yard receiver Sunday. It also had a 100-yard tight end.
Moore caught five passes for 100 yards and a touchdown in his Bills debut, while Kincaid caught five passes for 130 yards.
It was only the second game in franchise history in which Buffalo had a wide receiver and tight end each finish with at least 100 receiving yards.
The other came in Week 2 of the 1992 season against the San Francisco 49ers, when Andre Reed had 144 receiving yards and Pete Metzelaars had 113.
Dalton Kincaid had Bills' best tight end game since 1967
Kincaid didn't just set a career high. His 130 receiving yards were the most by a Bills tight end in nearly 59 years.
Only Paul Costa has had more receiving yards in a game by a tight end in franchise history. Costa had 163 against the Oakland Raiders on Dec. 24, 1967, and 138 against the Denver Broncos on Nov. 19, 1967.
Kincaid's 130 yards now rank third.
Kincaid had catches of 38 and 40 yards on scoring drives and then caught a 35-yard pass from Allen on the final drive that moved the Bills from their 32 to the Houston 33. Three plays later, Allen found Palmer for the winning touchdown.
Josh Allen finally won in Houston
Allen apparently likes Reliant Stadium now.
"We do like Reliant Stadium," Allen joked after the game. "Woo."
He has reason to feel differently.
Allen entered Sunday 0-4 in Houston and had never won a road game against the Texans. Buffalo hadn't done it without him, either. The Bills' 36-31 victory was their first in Houston since Nov. 19, 2006, ending a drought that lasted nearly 20 years.
Allen finished his first Houston victory with 357 combined passing and rushing yards, four total touchdowns and no turnovers.
Joe Brady joined rare company in Bills debut
Brady's first regular-season game as Bills head coach ended with his first victory.
That put him on a short list in franchise history. Brady became the fourth coach in Bills history to win his debut as the team's head coach.
He also became only the second to win his first game as an NFL head coach while making that debut with Buffalo.
Bills scored most points against Texans defense since 2023
The Texans led the NFL in yards allowed and ranked second in points allowed last season.
Buffalo scored 36 anyway.
It was the most points Houston's defense has allowed since the Cleveland Browns scored 36 in a 36-22 victory on Dec. 24, 2023.
The Bills finished with 409 yards despite possessing the ball for only 23:43. They averaged 7.9 yards per play and didn't turn the ball over. When Buffalo needed one last touchdown, Allen and the offense traveled 96 yards in 97 seconds to get it.
