A Steuben County man died after his motorcycle struck a deer Saturday evening in the town of Naples, according to an updated release from the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
Crash happened on County Road 36
Deputies responded around 7:25 p.m. Aug. 1 to the area of 7832 County Road 36 in Naples for a reported single-vehicle crash.
Investigators said Charles M. Burpee, 53, of Wayland, was riding a 2010 Honda motorcycle southbound on County Road 36 when he struck a deer.
Rider died from injuries
Burpee was taken by Canandaigua Emergency Squad to F.F. Thompson Hospital with life-threatening injuries. After he was stabilized, he was flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for additional treatment.
According to an updated release from the sheriff's
office, Burpee later succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital early Sunday morning.
Road closed during investigation
A portion of County Road 36 was temporarily closed while investigators reconstructed the crash scene.
The Naples Ambulance, Naples Fire Department, Richmond Fire Department and Mercy Flight assisted at the scene.
The Ontario County Sheriff's Office said the incident remains under investigation.
