Section V football predictions, Week 3
Matchup No. 1: Monroe vs. East High/World of Inquiry
Monroe 21, East High/World of Inquiry 13: The Class B state champions win the Tree Bowl game between the best teams in the Rochester City School District, underline Monroe as the team to beat in Section V Class B and just about clinch status as the Rochester City Athletic Conference champion. While Monroe scored touchdowns six ways last week, one works this time, in the form
of three touchdown passes by Terrell Cunningham Jr.
Matchup No. 2: Hilton vs. Victor
Hilton 35, Victor 21: A clash between two Class A-1 teams that are surely feeling good about themselves. This game features quite a contrast in styles. Hilton has already scored 100 points through two weeks, while Victor has limited its opponents to only 13 in that same span. In this instance, Hilton's firepower, led by quarterback Matt Kosiorek and playmaker Tyler Reger, wins out.
Matchup No. 3: Penfield vs. Webster Schroeder
Penfield 20, Webster Schroeder 17: Penfield needs a win to avoid an 0-3 start, a far cry from its Section V Class AA title finish last fall. Desperation sometimes prompts urgency. That could power Penfield on the road against a solid Schroeder (1-1) team. Sophomore quarterback Mason Cerqua and senior wide receiver Jake Maurer have shown flashes for Penfield, which lost to Victor and Hilton, respectively, in its first two games.
