A Newark man accused of pointing what appeared to be a handgun at a Wayne County sheriff's deputy over the weekend has been arrested, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon outside the Newark Police Department. A deputy fired a service weapon toward the man after he allegedly pointed the gun at the deputy. No bullets struck him, authorities said.
Man faces weapons, menacing charges
Larry H. Barlow, 41, of Newark was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and second-degree menacing and obstruction of governmental administration, both misdemeanors, according to the sheriff's office.

According to deputies, Barlow entered the lobby of the Newark Police Department on East Miller Street Sunday afternoon, upset
about an incident he believed involved police officers.
Barlow allegedly produced a pistol while inside the police station and at one point held it to his head, authorities said.
He eventually left the station and encountered a sheriff's deputy in the parking lot.
The deputy ordered Barlow to drop the weapon, but he allegedly refused and pointed it at the deputy, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputy fires at man
The deputy fired his service weapon at Barlow, but no bullets struck him, authorities said.
Barlow eventually put down the weapon and was taken into custody. He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation before being charged.
Deputies later determined the weapon was a BB gun, according to the sheriff's office.

Barlow was scheduled to be arraigned in Wayne County CAP Court. Additional details about the case were not immediately available.
