Despite
sending three teams to the New York state championships, Section V was shut out in winning titles last season. Come mid-November, area teams could reclaim their spots atop the podium.
The Cortland area will host the postseason tournaments for the 20th consecutive year.
Here are important dates to know for the Fall 2026 season:
- Practices began: Monday, Aug. 24
- Last day of regular season: Friday, Oct. 16
- Sectional seeding meeting: Saturday, Oct. 17
- Sectional play-ins (if necessary): Monday, Oct. 19
- Sectionals begin: Tuesday, Oct. 20
- Championship games (Class AAA): Thursday, Oct. 29
- Championship games (Class B, C): Friday, Oct. 30
- Championship games (Class AA, A, D): Saturday, Oct. 31
- Class B state qualifier: Tuesday, Nov. 2
- Class C state qualifier: Wednesday, Nov. 3
- NYSPHSAA semifinals: Saturday, Nov. 14 at Cortland, Homer and Dryden high schools
- NYSPHSAA finals: Sunday, Nov. 15 at Cortland and Homer high schools
