A Rochester man has been accused of shooting a man to death in a Hague Street backyard last month.
Man shot, killed in backyard
Ronald Leonard Jr., 64, of Rochester, was shot at least once in the torso and died from his injuries around 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, Rochester police Capt. Frank Umbrino said.
Responding officers were directed to the backyard of a vacant residence at 371 Hague St., where they found Leonard lying in the grass in the rear portion of the property. He died at the scene.
Acquaintance accused in shooting death
Troy Dukes, 33, was apprehended Thursday on Dr. Samuel McCree Way in southwest Rochester.
Dukes was charged with three felonies in connection with the homicide:
- Second-degree murder.
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
- Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Dukes is accused of "tracking Leonard" as he walked along Hague Street before charging toward him and "opening fire" when Leonard reached
371 Hague St., Umbrino said. Leonard was shot multiple times.
Umbrino said the two men knew one another and had been involved in a previous altercation.
Drugs recovered during arrest
As part of the ongoing homicide investigation, police executed multiple search warrants at locations on Hague Street linked to Dukes, according to police.
Investigators seized more than 100 individual packets of fentanyl and 36 individual packets of cocaine, all packaged for street sale, Umbrino said. Police also seized more than $3,000 in cash.
Although arrests were made in connection with the drug seizures, Dukes was not located at the time and was not charged in connection with the recovered drugs, Umbrino said.
What's next
Dukes is set to be arraigned in City Court on Friday morning.
