While the top teams from large schools in Section V football appear to be separating from the rest, it's quite clear there is shuffling taking place among the small schools teams.
The most intense shakeup of the high school football season took place in the latest Democrat and Chronicle Super 10 small schools team rankings, which include teams in Class B, Class C and Class D.
But not at the top.
Monroe, the 2025 Class B state champion, remains No. 1. But Batavia Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen, Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw, Avon and Oakfield-Alabama/Elba have dropped out.
Brighton, the 2025 Class A state finalist, remains No. 1 in the large schools Super 10. However, this is the first week that not all of the first-place votes went to the Bruins. The large schools rankings
include teams in Class AA and Class A.
Democrat and Chronicle writers Justin Ritzel, Jeff Uveino and James Johnson determine the rankings. Each reporter ranks the top 10 large school and small school teams in Section V.
The No. 1 teams on each list receive 10 points, the No. 2 teams receive nine points, the No. 3 teams receive eight points and so on.
A second loss in three weeks pushed Irondequoit out of the large schools Super 10.
Section V football Super 10, large school
1. Brighton(4-0) - Class A - 29 points (2 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Rollout: Should come out on top Friday night at Churchville-Chili, in a matchup of running games. Justin Medina and Zachary Rossignol do the legwork.
2. Hilton(4-0) - Class A - 28 points - Last week: 2.
Rollout: It was stunning how quickly the Cadets turned their homecoming game against Irondequoit into a blowout. But longtime Section V football followers may be wondering why anyone is surprised
3. Rush-Henrietta (4-0) - Class AA - 24 points - Last week: 3.
Rollout: It's official, the R-H offense is in gear. Royal Comets quarterback Brendan Mangone, a senior, finished with five touchdown passes against struggling Fairport (0-4). The result could be similar against a banged-up Penfield team.
4. Canandaigua(4-0) - Class A - 20 points - Last week: 4.
Rollout: Not only did the Gray Wolves cool off Greece Arcadia, they rolled with their power running game to a 42-6 victory. A home game against Class AA Fairport is an intriguing matchup..
5. Pittsford(3-1) - Class AA - 19 points - Last week: 5.
Rollout: Panthers take a step up in competition Friday against Victor. The Blue Devils are in Class A1, a group of smaller schools than Pittsford, but are stronger than Fairport and Penfield, the Class AA teams the Panthers defeated the last two weeks.
6. Victor (3-1) - Class A - 12 points - Last week: 8T.
Rollout: Blue Devils earned a good win over Webster Schroeder last week, 14-0 at Webster Schroeder. A victory Friday at Pittsford Sutherland would be another attention-getter.
7. University Prep (2-2) - Class AA - 11 points - Last week: 8T.
Rollout: UPrep, as you can see, is back at a .500 winning percentage. Which way will it and the Griffins go Saturday at Niagara Falls? Gavin White, Briyceton Thomas and Thomas Levans reached the end zone last week, while Eric Torres III passed for 227 yards.
8. Churchville-Chili (4-0) - Class A - 10 points - Last week: 7.
Rollout: The bowl of Chili went to the Saints last week, after defeating Gates Chili. Despite being undefeated, the Saints slipped one spot this week. But they are sure to move up a few spots if they can beat No. 1 Brighton on Friday night at Churchville-Chili.
9. Webster Schroeder (2-2) - Class A - 7 points - Last week: 6.
Rollout: Warriors were the ones who were shut out last week at Victor. Now they must get it together Friday against No. 2 Hilton. That doesn't sound easy. At least the matchup is a home game for the Warriors.
10. Brockport (2-2) - Class A - 6 points - Last week: 10T.
Rollout: Blue Devils are in the Super 10 after winning the homecoming game at Eastridge. Wesley Childs and quarterback Mason Scott try to stay on a roll Friday night on home field against Greece Olympia/Odyssey (1-3).
Also received votes: Eastridge (Class A, 2-2).
Section V football Super 10, small school
1. Monroe(4-0) - Class B - 30 points (3 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Rollout: Defense picked up its second shutout last week against Honeoye Falls-Lima. Monroe hosts Gates Chili, 6 p.m. Thursday.
2. East High/World of Inquiry (2-1) - Class B - 27 points - Last week: 2T.
Rollout: The Eagles opened their season a week later than most, since Wilson/Early College folded into the merged Edison team. They have a 49-0 win over Aquinas and 52-0 over Edison. Monroe, a state champion in 2025, defeated the Eagles 12-7 Sept. 18.
3. Alexander/Pembroke (4-0) - Class C - 26 points - Last week: 2T.
Rollout: The 2025 Section V Class C champion has a championship-level matchup this Saturday at Alexander. LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford is also undefeated and right up there in Class C with Alexander/Pembroke.
4. LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford (4-0) - Class C - 21 points - Last week: 5.
Rollout: The chance to take down undefeated Alexander/Pembroke and remain undefeated arrives Saturday for the LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford Rivals.
5. Honeoye Falls-Lima (2-2) - Class B - 12 points - Last week: 4.
Rollout: Cougars have a chance to turn their roller coaster car upward. HF-L hosts Batavia, a team that has scored seven points in the last three weeks.
6. York/Pavilion (3-1) - Class D - 9 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: Moved back into the Super 10, and deservedly so, after defeating Batavia Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen, 14-7. It seems that York/Pavilion's schedule does not ease up very much, as it hosts Oakfield-Alabama/Elba at York on Friday.
7. (tied) Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton (3-1) - Class B - 7 points - Last week: 10.
Rollout: Moved up on this list after a loss. That setback was to LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford, a team in a group of smaller schools in Class C, but undefeated. On Friday, can Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton get past Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga, a team that pulled off one of the upsets in Week 4?
7. (tied) Geneva (3-1) - Class C - 7 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: The dividend from a win over East Rochester/Gananda has finally arrived for the Panthers. This is Geneva's debut in this Super 10.
7. (tied) Canisteo-Greenwood (3-1) - Class D - 7 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: The Chargers are back. They try to extend their winning streak to three Friday night at Avon, after a 27-0 win over Oakfield-Alabama/Elba.
7. (tied) Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga (3-1) - Class D - 7 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: Another team making its debut this season in the small schools Super 10. Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga will continue to climb, if it can defeat Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton on Friday night in Cohocton.
Also received votes: Batavia Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen (Class D, 3-1), Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw (Class C, 2-2), East Rochester/Gananda (Class C, 2-2), Oakfield-Alabama/Elba (Class D, 3-1).
