Will Josh Allen play in the Buffalo Bills' second preseason game?
That's still to be determined.
Bills head coach Joe Brady didn't commit to playing Allen and the starters Saturday against the Cleveland Browns after giving them an extensive workload during Thursday's joint practice.
"The ones should come out of today's practice with 40 to 50 reps," Brady said before the joint practice. "In a sense, it's as regular season as it can kind of get."
Allen got plenty of work and looked excellent.
Allen participated in six different sets of 11-on-11 team drills against the Browns. He connected with Dalton Kincaid for a touchdown down the seam, fired another TD pass to Joshua Palmer over the middle and found tight end Jackson Hawes over the middle for another score.
Could that be enough to keep Allen on the sideline when the Bills and Browns play at 1 p.m. Saturday at Huntington Bank Field?
Allen and Buffalo's healthy starters played in last week's 29-14 preseason victory over the Carolina Panthers. Allen completed 6 of 8 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in his first preseason appearance since 2024.
His day didn't last long.
Allen played two series and led Buffalo to a field goal and a touchdown. The touchdown pass went to Keon Coleman for the first touchdown scored in a game at new Highmark Stadium.
Brady took a different approach this week by giving his starters extensive work against Cleveland during the joint practice.
The controlled setting allowed the Bills to put Allen and the first-team offense through different situations against another NFL defense while Brady evaluated how much additional work they would need in Saturday's preseason game.
Whether that includes Allen remains to be seen.
