Parts of western and north-central New York could see severe thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
Forecasters have issued a marginal risk, Level 1 of 5, for severe thunderstorms, with damaging winds the primary threat.
Where severe weather is possible
The marginal severe thunderstorm risk covers parts of western and north-central New York, including Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, northern Cayuga, Oswego, Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany and southern Erie counties.
Storms also could bring locally heavy rainfall from Monday through Monday night.
For portions of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, including the Upper Niagara River, Buffalo Harbor and nearshore waters from Ripley to
Buffalo, strong winds and locally higher waves are the primary concerns.
No hazardous weather expected later this week
The National Weather Service said no hazardous weather is expected Tuesday through Sunday at this time.
