At least 17 Starbucks stores in New York state closed late last month in the latest wave of closures across North America.
The Seattle-based company announced Sept. 24
that it would close 250 locations, including several New York City coffeehouses, one just northeast of Buffalo and a popular Starbucks in Brighton, about a mile south of Rochester's city limits. Within days of the announcement, some longtime stores closed permanently.Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams said last month that the coffee chain closes locations each year and that the recent closures represent about 1% of Starbucks' more than 18,000 North American coffeehouses.
"We're making this decision for a simple reason: We want every Starbucks coffeehouse to be a place
customers love and partners are proud to work," Grams said in a public letter.
Starbucks did not publish a list of stores slated for closure. USA TODAY compiled a list by verifying closures reported by starbuckseverywhere.net. The addresses were cross-checked using Starbucks' store locator, which indicated that online ordering was unavailable at closed locations, as well as Google and Yelp listings identifying permanently closed businesses. USA TODAY's New York Connect Team also verified several locations on the list.

USA TODAY reached out to Starbucks multiple times for a list of store closures before publishing its list. Starbucks told USA TODAY that customers could look for signage on the doors of closed locations and check the Starbucks store locator and mobile app to see whether a location remains open.
