Much of Georgiawill swelter under dangerous heatTuesday, with heat index values expected to top 110 degrees in some cities and a Heat Advisory in effect for parts of the state.
Another round of dangerous summer heat is settling over Georgia this week, prompting forecasters to issue a Heat Advisory for metro Atlanta and much of north Georgia.
The advisoryis in effect from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday, when the combination of high temperatures and humidity is expected to push heat index values between 105 and 109 degrees.

How hot will it get in Georgia?
While actual air temperatures will climb into the upper 90s and near 100 degrees, it will feel even hotter because of the humidity.
According to the National Weather
Serviceforecast, Tuesday's expected highs include:
- Athens: High near 98, heat index as high as 107
- Augusta: High near 100, heat index as high as 111
- Savannah: High near 98, heat index as high as 110
- Macon: High near 98, heat index as high as 107
- LaGrange: High near 96, heat index as high as 104
- Blue Ridge: High near 91, heat index as high as 98
Among the listed cities, Augusta and Savannah are expected to experience the highest heat index values, making it feel as hot as 111 and 110 degrees, respectively.

Why the heat is dangerous
The heat index measures what the temperature feels like when humidity is factored in. High humidity slows the body's ability to cool itself through sweating, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Prolonged time outdoors, especially during the hottest part of the afternoon, can increase the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Symptoms of heat-related illnesses
- High body temperature
- Hot, red, dry, or damp skin
- Fast, strong pulse
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Confusion
- Heavy sweating
- Cold, pale, and clammy skin
- Fast, weak pulse
- Nausea or vomiting
- Muscle cramps
- Tiredness or weakness
- Fainting (passing out)
