Two horses were seized and a South Carolina man faces animal cruelty and neglect charges following a welfare investigation in Aiken on Tuesday.
Aiken County Code Enforcement, assisted by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and Aiken Department of Public Safety, conducted a welfare investigation Sept. 15 on Henry Street in Aiken, according to authorities.
As a result of the investigation, officials obtained two arrest warrants charging a North, S.C., resident with two counts of cruelty/neglect of animals, a news release noted. The two horses were removed from the property during the investigation.
An arrest warrant noted that both horses were contained to a small residential lot on Henry
Street with minimal grass for grazing. Authorities said there wasn't adequate food or shelter, and one of the horses had been wearing a saddle and blanket for several days.
