It's September, and that means the summer heat might be cooling, summer vacation season is over, football season is here, and it's almost time for the annual Arts in the Heart Festival. It's also the month we remember the victims of 911 on the 25th anniversary of the attack.

911 remembrance ceremony
What: Augusta University and the City of Augusta will remember victims of 9/11 with a 10th annual memorial and 5K run benefiting the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Where & When: 8 a.m. Saturday at the D. Douglas Barnard Jr. Amphitheatre on the university's
Summerville campus. Musicians from Augusta Drum & Pipe will play their bagpipes at 9:03 a.m. to mark the time the second plane struck the South Tower in 2001. The run begins at 8:46 a.m.
Details: The foundation's mission is to honor and support first responders and military service members and is dedicated to the memory of Siller, a fallen firefighter and father of five who was off-duty when the first plane struck. He drove to his Brooklyn fire station to retrieve his gear, then ran about 3 miles to the Twin Towers with 60 pounds of gear on his back.
Arts in the Heart of Augusta
What: Arts in the Heart of Augusta festival, one of the area's most popular annual events.
When & Where: Sept. 18-20, Augusta Exchange Club Fairgrounds, 308 Hale St., Augusta
Details: This three-day festival has been one of the area's most popular events since 1982. There's the Global Village that features food and culture from many countries, fine arts and crafts vendors from across the country, and entertainment from many of the area's cultural organizations. WWII aircraft coming to town
What: Georgia Barnstorming Tours comes to Augusta
When & Where: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept, 12, Augusta Regional Airport
Details: The Commemorative Air Force Airbase Georgia fleet is coming to Augusta to offer rides on the historic planes and a chance to see them up close. To schedule rides in advance and learn more about the fleet, visit www.airbasegeorgia.org. Admission is free
Symphony raises the roof
What: The Augusta Symphony performs
When & Where: 7:30 p.m., Sept. 25, Miller Theater at 708 Broad St. in downtown Augusta
Details: This is part of the Piedmont Augusta Masterworks Series. The symphony's principal timpanist timpani Denis Petrunin will take the spotlight in Michael Daughtery's Raise the Roof concerto with a solo "that turns the timpani into a heroic solo instrument – an exuberant celebration of rhythm, architecture, and imagination," according to a preview of the event. Jazz in the Garden
What: Candlelight Jazz, South Augusta Edition
When & Where: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Belle Terrace Presbyterian Church - Community Garden
Details: This is a free concert by the jazz duo Hobbs + Reid, who bring their soulful sounds to the outdoor garden. Bring chairs and a picnic, and learn more about the garden. Behind the scenes at the Augusta Museum of History
Where & When: Sept. 5, 12, and 19. Tours start at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. at the museum at 560 Reynolds St. in downtown Augusta.
What: Get a behind-the-scenes look at how the museum workers organize and care for the artifacts.
Details: Alena Rensch, registrar at the Augusta Museum of History, and the AMH collections team will take visitors on tours in the collections area at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., allowing the public to see the Museum's Processing Laboratory, where they will demonstrate how the museum collects, catalogs, preserves, studies, cares for, and displays archival collections. Space is limited in each tour and is for adults and children ages 8-17. To reserve a spot, call 706-722-8454 and ask for Rensch. The cost of the tour is included in the general museum admission fee, which is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $5 for children, and free for children younger than 6.
Puff the Magic Dragon
What: The beloved childhood story of a dragon who befriends two children is coming to the local stage by puppets. Young Jackie Paper and Puff team up to use imagination to save the Land of Honah Lee and restore its magical rainbow.
Where & When: There will be 23 performances at the theater at 286 Flowing Wells Road in Martinez from Sept. 3-15, and showtimes vary. There will be three performances on Labor Day.
Details: Visit www.flowingwellstheatre.com/puppets for dates and times. Tickets are $8. Each show lasts for an hour, and there will be a question-and-answer session after each show.
