A former Richmond County Sheriff’s Office major has been arrested on charges including pandering, solicitation of sodomy, and violation of oath of office, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The GBI noted in an online news release that Robert “Robbie” W. Silas, 59, of Hephzibah, was charged with one felony count of pandering, one misdemeanor count of solicitation of sodomy, and one felony count of violation of oath of office. Silas previously served as a major with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began Aug. 28 after the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate allegations that Silas solicited sodomy and prostitution
in the Augusta area. Authorities said the investigation stemmed from a tip received by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Silas was arrested Aug. 31 at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Richmond County jail, according to the news release. The FBI’s Augusta Resident Agency assisted in the investigation.
The case remains active and ongoing.
